The world Kendo leaders gathered in Milan to kick off the final phase of the road map to Milan 2024.
During the last meeting of the board of the International Kendo Federation in July in Milan, the amazing venue of the next 19th World Kendo Championships, president Tadahiro Ajiro pointed out how Kendo, while being inspired by the use of ancient and traditional Japanese weapons, aims to promote personal development and peace among all peoples.
During the meeting, Matteo Petri, President of the Italian Kendo Confederation and host of the board in Milan, expressed great satisfacion for Ukraine’s entry into the International Kendo Federation.
This important three-day meeting actually started the organization of the world championships. The IKF delegation was received for a formal greeting at the city hall by Mrs. Martina Riva, Councilor for Sports and Youth Policies.
The members of the board of the International Kendo Federation, gathered from all over the world, expressed full appreciation to the president of the CIK, Mr. Petri, and to the president of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Franco Sarra, for the work carried out so far and for the progress of the organization of the world championships.
During the meeting at Palazzo Marino, councilor Mrs. Riva unveiled her satisfaction for having Milan as venue for this important global happening, which for the city is part of the broad program of events that will lead to host with Cortina d’Ampezzo, the next Winter Olympic Games in 2026.
The meeting with the councilor took place on the opening day of the World Fencing Championships, a curious coincidence, ideally linking exactly one year apart, traditional European fencing to Kendo, the traditional Japanese fencing practiced throughout the world by over five million players.
Within the meeting at Palazzo Marino, President Ajiro and Councilor Riva also praised designer Guido Cabrele for the shaping of the World Cup logo. A short ceremony was held to acknowledge him as the winner for the best logo contest.
